After two years of pestering her parents she began harp lessons aged six when her family moved back to England. Lauren studied harp at Trinity College of Music and has a busy portfolio musical career. As an established and in demand freelance player, she plays guest principal harp with many of the UK’s leading orchestras and chamber groups as well as pursuing her own projects. Her harp playing has led her to performing in venues across the UK from the Royal Albert Hall to West End shows to commercial recordings to live broadcasts on radio and TV. |

Pure Imagination from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory played at an outdoor wedding. The harp strings don't normally look like this when being played in real life! This is a "trick of the eye" effect which is a combination of the light and speed of the video capture.

harp wedding music
As a general rule music for weddings breaks up into the following 3 separate sections
1. If you are having a civil wedding there is the ceremony itself. This involves playing as guests arrive, a processional as the bride makes her entrance, 2 pieces during the signing of the register, and a recessional as you leave the room.
2. Drinks reception after the service (usually whilst photos are happening, as there can be general milling around for the guests).
3. During the wedding breakfast.
Lauren has a wide ranging and extensive repertoire, and if you have a special piece you want playing she would be happy to accommodate any requests as long as the piece transfers well to being played on the harp. For drinks receptions and wedding breakfasts she has an extensive repertoire, ranging from light classical music (ie music that most people will recognise from adverts & films etc,) ballet and opera tunes, songs from the shows, jazz standards, Disney tunes, contemporary love songs and traditional folk music. The music Lauren plays caters for all ages and she tends to play a mixture of music which is appropriate at the time to help set the “mood”. For Asian weddings and Bollywood harp please see the Bollywood repertoire list below.
The following tracks below are proven to be popular and well suited to church weddings, civil ceremonies & civil partnerships.

Please note that some Registrars don’t allow music which can have “religious” connotations to played at a civil ceremony. There is no “law” saying which music is religious, it is purely up to the Registrars personal taste. Different county registrars have different ways of interpreting this rule, but as a general rule of thumb if it is normally sung in a church then it won't be allowed at a civil ceremony. The pedal harp is surprisingly portable! Harpists will use a specialist trolley to wheel the harp from their car to where you want them to perform. If there is good disabled access in the venue, then the harpist can generally use that to wheel the harp to where they need to set up to play.
The small lever harp is a wonderful alternative to the pedal harp at your wedding where access may be an issue. If your venue has lots of steps, or access is only by spiral staircases you might want to consider a lever harp for your live music. Harpists can generally wheel their harp up a few steps without any problem. However if there are a lot of steps then you should arrange for sometime to assist them.
Lauren has a battery powered amplifier she can connect to her lever harps, so you don't need to worry about whether the sound will travel in a larger space.
If your wedding is outdoors then playing the lever harp can be a better choice than a pedal harp as it is quicker to set up and can be moved quickly in case of inclement weather. If your event is outdoors, then you will need to make sure that there is a solid floor that the harp can stand on. Matting laid over grass does not provide a secure surface for your musicians. Wooden decking, paving slabs or temporary dance floors laid onto grass are ideal surfaces for pedal harps.
For lever harps only, compact natural ground areas are ok as a surface to set up and perform on. Because of the value of the instruments there needs to be some protection from the UK weather! Ideally a roof covering and / or a wind shelter on one or more sides is required. Siting the harp near a wall usually works as a shield against the wind. Full sun and wind is not good for these expensive instruments. A good way to check whether the spot you want your musician to play in outdoors is ok, is to stand in it and ask yourself whether you would be comfortable staying in that same spot for 2 hours. Essentially if you are not comfortable and it's a bit chilly, a sun-trap, or a bit of a wind tunnel then it won't be comfortable for your musician! |

Lauren the harpist really set the tone for the reception, her playing was simply beautiful and so many people said how good she was. L&N wedding at Nunsmere Hall
We both wanted to make sure you knew that the music we heard you play throughout the day was fantastic, and it really added a lovely atmosphere to the proceedings. The amount of guests that have said to us how lovely it was to have the harp playing before, during, and after the ceremony, and how much they enjoyed listening to you play, is truly indicative of the lovely contribution you made. You really helped to create the whole tone of the day-celebrations, and your performance was everything we had hoped for.
