An hour of scintillating music for the soul performed on lever harp by Lauren Scott + Tamsin's Troubadours (harp ensemble) Music by Monika Stadler, J.S Bach, Opperman, Fiona Rutherford, John Lennon, Gary Carpenter & Lauren Scott Old Malton War Memorial Hall 44 Town St Old Malton YO17 7HD Sat, 22 Jul 2023 14:00 TICKETS available HERE Prior to the Covid pandemic, Lauren wrote a 15 minute harp ensemble piece in three movements Harps Across the North for mixed ability harp groups which was funded by PRS Women Make Music. Each movement was written for a different harp ensemble across the North of the UK and one of the movements was written for the Old Malton Harp Group (now called Tamsin's Troubadors). There was due to be workshops and a performance with the ensemble group during 2020 but this was scuppered by the pandemic.
Roll on 2023, and Lauren will be workshopping this piece with Tamsin's Troubadours in the morning and they will be joining her at the end of the afternoon's concert to perform the piece that was written for them, Hope is the Thing with Feathers. Inspired by the poem by Emily Dickenson, Hope is the Thing with Feathers is a Round in four parts and incorporates preparation with cardboard in the middle octave to create the effect of pitched drums. Inspired by the sense of 'ritual' and 'power' behind the New Zealand Haka, the Maori word for "hope" - tumanako - is broken up into separate syllables and woven into the Round so that the word in it's entirety is chanted three times throughout the piece. Hope is the Thing with Feathers was written for the Old Malton Harp Group in North Yorkshire More info about the Harps Across the North project HERE
